Writing in the Library

For a library's owners and editors: writing articles with drafts, review and version history, answering FAQ candidates with an AI draft, reading what people ask, and making new libraries.

Libraries are written and managed in the app's Library section. Open a library; editors see the tabs Read, Articles, Topics, FAQ, Questions, Insights and Settings.

Who can edit

RoleCan do
OwnerEverything, including the library's settings and its owners and editors
EditorWrite, edit and publish articles; answer the FAQ
ReadersDepend on the library's audience: Public (everyone), Members (logged-in people), Course (the people who may take a course), Private (owners and editors only)

In a course's library, the course's teachers are its editors automatically.

Writing an article

The editor handles headings, lists, tables, code, images, quotes, callouts and links. Start a line with ## for a heading, - for a list or > for a quote. Paste from a document: formatting is cleaned to what articles allow. Ctrl+S saves.

  • Drafts and review. Save a draft, submit it for review, or publish. With Owners publish on, editors submit and owners publish.
  • Published articles stay live while you edit. Changes are saved as the article's next version and go live only when you publish them.
  • History. Every saved state is kept: compare any version with the current text, and restore it.
  • Last verified. Publishing counts as verified today; It is still right marks a check without changes. Articles older than the library's limit are flagged for editors.
  • Who can read it. An article can be narrower than its library: logged-in readers only, or editors only (internal notes).
  • Topics, tags, related articles and attachments in the side panel.

The FAQ

The FAQ tab lists new questions: what readers asked the librarian and searches that found nothing, grouped by meaning and ranked by how often they come up, with the wordings people used.

  1. Open a question and choose Draft with AI: the AI writes an answer from the library's articles, with the articles it used.
  2. Edit the answer, then Approve and publish. It appears on the FAQ page, ordered by popularity.
  3. Or merge it into a similar question, or dismiss it.

Questions and Insights

  • Questions shows what readers asked and what the librarian answered; filter the ones the library could not answer.
  • Insights shows searches per day, searches that found nothing, questions not answered, the most read and the least helpful articles.

Content in bulk

On Settings > Content, import Markdown files (one article per file, optional front matter) and rebuild the search index. Administrators update the libraries that come with the site from Settings for all libraries > Content packs; articles you edited are kept as they are.

New libraries

New library in the Library section: a name, an address, an audience and, for a course library, the course. Teachers can create a library for a course they teach.
