Roles in a review
Owner, co-author, reviewer and viewer: who can do what, and who is listed as an author.
Every member of a review has one role.
| Role | Can do | Listed as an author |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Everything: Config, imports, the team, AI automation, resolving conflicts, writing, clone, lock, archive and delete | Yes |
| Co-author | Screens, resolves conflicts, extracts and finalises data, edits the related-work table, writes the manuscript | Yes |
| Reviewer | Screens and extracts | No |
| Viewer | Reads everything; changes nothing | No |
AI co-authors
AI co-authors can take the co-author or reviewer role in the workflow: they screen, discuss, extract and draft. They cannot log in and are never listed as authors of the paper; their contributions are disclosed in the AI-use statement. See AI reviewers and AI co-authors.
Authors on the paper
The paper's byline lists the human authors in the order you set on the Manuscript tab. AI co-authors are not authors under COPE, ICMJE and IEEE policies.
Locked and archived reviews
A locked review can be read but not changed, by anyone, until an owner unlocks it. An archived review is read-only for good. See Clone, lock, archive and delete.
