Joining, logging in and your account
How to request access or accept an invitation, log in, reset a forgotten password, and use your account page.
Everything about your account happens on the site's own pages: Join, Log in, Forgot password, Reset password and Account.
Joining
How you join depends on how the site is set up. Usually it is by invitation:
- Request access on the Join page: your name, your e-mail address and a line about what you want to research.
- An administrator reviews the request. When it is approved, you receive an e-mail with a personal link, valid for 7 days.
- Open the link and create your account: choose a username, the name others see, and a password. Your e-mail address is the one that was approved.
If someone invited you directly, the e-mail's link works the same way. Nothing creates an account for you without your step.
On sites that are open to everyone, the Join page lets you sign up right away and choose a plan. When a site is closed to new members, the Join page says so.
Logging in
Use Log in in the site's top bar, with your username or e-mail address and your password. Password managers and pasting are welcome. After logging in you land where you were going, else in the app.
A forgotten password
- On the Log in page, choose Forgot password.
- Enter your username or e-mail address. If an account matches, an e-mail with a reset link arrives.
- Open the link and choose a new password.
Your account page
| Section | What you can do |
|---|---|
| Profile | Your name, the name others see, a short bio and links |
| Change your address; the change waits until you confirm it from the new address | |
| Password | Choose a new password |
| Preferences | The app's colour theme, the falling code of the Matrix theme, sounds |
| Plan | Your plan and, for paid plans, Manage billing |
| Sessions | Log out everywhere, on every device |
| Delete my account | Ask for your account to be deleted |
Some sites also give authors and teachers a public profile page; you can switch yours off.
Who can see what
- Your name appears to the teams of the reviews you are on and in the courses you take.
- Reviews are private to their teams.
- Questions you ask the Library's librarian are kept for a limited time so the documentation can improve. See Using the Library.
You never need the software's own admin screens: everything you use is on the site's pages and in the app.
