Rules

Rules are added to every writing prompt and to the review prompt, and reviewers flag violations. On by default:

  • no em dashes;
  • no purple prose;
  • no hype words;
  • numbers with baselines;
  • American English.

Add custom rules (for example "present tense for findings, no bullet lists") and banned words.

Example passages

Paste up to five passages written in the voice you want, for instance from your previous paper. The AI matches their tone, sentence rhythm, vocabulary and level of formality, and is told not to copy their wording or claims. Two or three paragraphs of 150 to 400 words work best.

The style check

Under each section, the style check counts what can be checked mechanically:

  • em dashes;
  • banned words;
  • lists;
  • very long sentences (over 40 words);
  • rhetorical questions.

Fix with AI revises only those issues and leaves the rest of the section alone.

Reusing a style

Starting the next review? Writing style > Reuse a style copies the rules, banned words and examples from a previous review.
